Kadman

These Old Bones

Kadman's stellar attention to sonic detail while keeping a downtempo pop sensibility begins to reveal elements of Antony and the Johnsons and Sun Kil Moon, leaving the listener with a truly original record that is both chilling and comforting. This record has the rare quality of being both dense and dreamy, intense and delicate, haunting and beautiful. It is these contrasting dichotomies that make These Old Bones such a joy to listen to-to let go and just listen. If you enjoy a record that you can really step inside of and spend the afternoon exploring its depths, then you will absolutely love These Old Bones.

The Honest Mistakes

Break Up

The Honest Mistakes went right into the studio and began working on a dynamic record with a strong pop sensibility and a renegade punk recording style. The Honest Mistakes Break Up is the realization of a three-year vision by Chris, Joylene, Adam and Frank. Break Up is a record that uses strong melodies and a sardonic wit to simultaneously pull on the listener’s heart strings and evoke a sense of irony that is truly Baltimore. The technicolor experiences The Honest Mistakes paint on Break Up have both levity and dynamism, and because of this Break Up is, at its core, a really brilliant pop record.

Gary B & the Notions

New Twist & Shout

New Twist & Shout will make you sing and make you smile, and may even make you dance a little. On "Give Me One Reason", Gary B sings, "Ain't it funny how wrong we are sometimes, like the Earth shining on the Sun...".  New Twist & Shout is far from wrong—it is so, so right for those sunny days hanging with friends or cruising around town. This record was mixed by J Mendicino of Pretty & Nice and is a true pop gem that should not be missed.

Jason Dove

Illegal Activities

Uplifting, unpretentious pop for a new generation of media-saturated slackers. Illegal Activities is Jason Dove’s third solo album and second to be recorded by legendary punk producer and engineer J. Robbins. In songs like “Big Red Truck”, “If You Think We Don’t Care”, and “Each and Everyone Of Us”, Jason uses clean pop melodies to convey a modern sense of yearning for connectedness and a disdain for the state of affairs in modern relationships. If you dig the pop sensibilities of Fountains of Wayne, Teenage Fanclub, The Minutemen, and Ben Folds Five, you will love Illegal Activities.

The Seldon Plan

Lost and Found and Lost

Whimsical, nostalgic indie pop tells the story of expectant hope and recession blues. Calling their latest LP “a burst of new flavor”, The Big Takeover’s Jack Rabid expressed delight at the “Baltimore foursome’s continued maturation” and compared it favorably to “melodic pop favorites such as Feelies’ offshoot Wild Carnation, Winnipeg’s wonderful Weakerthans, great Scots Camera Obscura, and Portland’s Dimes.”

Red Sammy

Dog Hang Low

On this sophomore effort from Red Sammy, and their first Beechfields release, listeners will naturally relish Red Sammy’s signature rollercoaster lyrics, sounds and emotions. Red Sammy is singer/songwriter Adam Trice. This record is not to be missed, and we are sure you will listen over and over in amazement as Adam weaves his tales. This is as if Bukowski and Faulkner met Dylan, Kerouac, Waits and Cash at a dive bar and had a conversation.

Mike Pursley

Eight Boxes

In the songs on Eight Boxes, Mike takes us on a trip from the edges of Appalachia to the doorsteps of the eastern seaboard. He combines unique lyrics, lo-fi recording techniques and melodic songwriting into a brooding, uplifting and colorful record, reminiscent of 60’s psych-folk, but updated for the iPod generation.

E. Joseph and the Phantom Heart

All The Medicine In The World

All the Medicine in the World represents the first release by E. Joseph and the Phantom Heart on The Beechfields Record Label and the label’s first foray into power-pop. The new record is truly a left coast/right coast coalition, recorded mostly in Maryland with Michael Collins and mixed in California by Jason Martin (Starflyer 59, Bon Voyage). This record slips on you like your favorite pair of jeans, and you will want to keep it on all night.

The Red Vines

Everyday Needles for Electromagnetic Lovers

Everyday Needles for Electromagnetic Lovers a fresh, modern and delightful indie-pop mash up of late 70's psychedelia and AM radio gold. This record is sunny California painted up east coast style, reminiscent of bands like Tram, Turin Brakes, Wilco, Spoon, Elliott Smith and Grandaddy. When you pop in this CD, you will enjoy a bunch of wonderfully crafted songs, reminiscent of Todd Rundgren’s 70’s album-oriented pop but with a modern flavor – much like if Elliott Smith had The Autumn Defense as his backing band.

The Collective Now (remastered)

An exploration of the band's on-again-off-again relationship with pop, The Collective Now was originally meant to be a dance pop record with healthy references to early 80's college radio. What emerged instead was the band's distinctively layered indie pop sound—searching, modern, nuanced—with noticeable tension between the desire for accessibility and the need for artistic expression. Listeners might hear glimmers of Maritime, The Little Ones, Band of Horses, Earlimart and The Swirlies. But no matter what you hear, you're sure to enjoy this sophomore effort from The Seldon Plan.

Sweethearting

Private Eleanor's fourth full-length record is their most confident and direct effort yet. This is a remarkable set of songs, full of sly hooks and sparkling textures, gorgeous boy/girl harmonies and oblique-but-evocative storytelling. At various points, they manage to conjure Mojave 3 produced by Wilco, or Simon & Garfunkel fronting the Dismemberment Plan, or Yo La Tengo tackling your favorite Neil Young and Big Star songs.

The Stalking Horses

This Is Your Signal

The Stalking Horses combine intelligent songcraft, "blissfully ragged melodicism" (Baltimore Magazine) and straight-forward rock & roll. The band's live energy is transformed into a massive wall of studio sound that propels singer Sarah Pinsker's road-worn tales of fragile and enchanted characters enacting a dream rehearsal of your life.

Don't Block The Box

Don't Block the Box is the first album for this 3-piece from Frederick, MD. On this self-produced record, MOTU explores latent indie-funk-rock as only they can. Each song takes the listener through notepad stories about places and times, surrounded by the bluesy-rock guitars and Van Morrison-esque vocals of Aidan Ryan. Songs like "Disco Appalachia" and "Black White Cards" play out into infectiously catchy grooves. The skillful drumming of Kelly Mills and intricate bass and keyboards of Bing Kung round out what is an impressive 2005 debut. Fans of acts as diverse as Yo La Tengo, Neil Young, Earth Wind and Fire, Wilco, Steely Dan and Joe Cocker will all find plenty to love in this record.
